The 2000s brought us a wide variety in styles of music, along with a wide and highly recognizable list of music artists/bands. From the boy bands near the turn of the millennium to the rock, electropop, crunkcore, and hip hop stars that would continue to rise and rule throughout the decade, odds are, there's at least one song/artist in your preferred genre from the 2000s you'll fall absolutely in love with. The aughts were the decade of Britney Spears, NSYNC, Christina Aguillera, Destiny's Child, Plain White T's, Three Days Grace, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, The Used, Hawthorne Heights, Simple Plan, Bowling For Soup, Nelly Furtado, Avril Lavigne, Eminem, Soulja Boy, and a lot more. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This was the decade where we saw a lot of MySpace artists and bands rise to fame, such as Pierce The Veil and Cute Is What We Aim For, and the decade where people would create lyric videos of their favorite songs using Windows Movie Maker and upload them onto YouTube (oftentimes with the end credits saying something like "r8 5 stars"). In addition, the 2000s were the decade of the MP3 player, which would end up becoming the dominant technology used for listening to music by the late 2000s. Some genres of music that were relatively popular in the 2000s are pop, pop punk, nu metal, emo, metalcore, alternative rock, hip hop, crunkcore, electropop, and more. ![]()

The 2000s were also the last full decade where you'd see a fair amount of people from various music based subcultures (such as goth, emo, scene, and nu metal). Unfortunately, with the decline of rock music in the 2010s and with the current epidemic of shallow, watered down "aesthetics" on short form content based websites, too came the decline of subcultures in general, where there currently aren't as many members in the present day. :( And honestly, if you ask me, I'd say 2006 was the best year in history for music (and just in general). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
